Neck Pain

WARNING: Taking pain medication or ignoring your neck pain could result in spinal decay down the road.

Why do I have Neck Pain?

Your neck is the most vulnerable part of your spine. Not only does it support your 10 pound head, maintain a forward curve, and permits head movement, but it must also allow the free flow of nerve impulses to the head, hands and the rest of your body.

Many daily activities can cause neck pain, such as:

  • talking on your phone
  • using your computer
  • falling asleep in a bad position in your chair
  • reading a book and so on.

The temporary pain that results can resolve on its own, especially when the offending activity is discontinued. When it doesn’t, a more serious underlying problem may exist.

A thorough examination can determine if you’re a good candidate for chiropractic care. Muscle tone of the supporting muscles in the neck may be elongated or weak causing bad posture. Diagnostic imaging may be warranted to reveal the underlying structure of the spine.

The most common cause of neck pain is functional distortions in the spine resulting from misalignments called vertebral subluxation. The subluxations are seen in cases of a reversed curve, whiplash or joint instability.

The body responds by tightening muscles of the neck, “splinting” the joint to protect it from further insult.
Most of the pain sensing nerves in the neck are located in the pairs of joints on the backside of each vertebra. These smooth, interlocking surfaces allow you to rotate your head and flex your head up and down. If these joints become locked, neck pain can result. That’s where chiropractors can help, They restore proper joint motion with spinal adjustments.

Why we are different

Dr. Howard is different than other Chiropractors. He uses several methods to check which misaligned vertebra are not moving. Many other Chiropractors only use one or two methods. Dr. Howard looks for the cause of the misaligned vertebra and treats accordingly to improve neck pain.

Causes of misalignment can be:

  • Auto Accidents
  • Muscle Imbalance / Asymmetry
  • Sports Activities
  • Bad Posture
  • Allergies
  • Stress
  • Organ Dysfunction
  • Spinal decay / Degeneration
  • And Others…
